Today's health topic::
Today, we are looking at "Acute Lymphangitis". This is an inflammatory problem that occurs beneath the bodies lymphatic channels. These channels transport a clear fluid called "lymph" which contains cells that fight infection. If these channels are clogged, you get an infection.
Symptoms of Acute Lymphangitis
What Causes Acute Lymphangitis
I get a lot of letters concerning "Acute lymphangitis", most of these letter want to know where this condition came from. It is most often caused by the bacteria (Streptococcus Pyogenes). This is the same bacteria that causes strep throat, and more serious infections of the heart, the spinal cord, and the lungs. Another cause of Acute Lymphangitis could be (Staphylococci bacteria).
How to obtain a diagnosis
Acute Lymphangitis diagnosis is based on symptoms (listed above). You will need a complete blood test to see if the number of white blood cells has increased to fight the infection.
Treatment
If you have been diagnosed with Acute Lymphangitis you will be given a very large dose of penicillin, through the vein. The bacteria is usually eliminated by penicillin. If you are allergic to penicillin, the antibiotic clindamycin may be used to treat to any "strep" which are not growing and are in a resting state.
