I have a patient suffering from "skin necrosis" currently being treated with kidney dialysis. They have a very rare condition called Calciphylaxis which causes calcium to gather in the blood vessels. This resulted in painful ulcers of the skin and could, without treatment, cause serious infections, and finally organ failure.
We don't know very much about "Calciphylaxis" - though we had the first report of the condition back in 1898. Two doctors "Bryant and White" discovered it associated with uremia. Another doctor - "Selye" in 1962 was the first to come up with the name "Calciphylaxis" to characterize this strange condition.
Calciphylaxis is seen almost exclusively in patients with Stage 5 chronic kidney disease. In the case of my patient, it resulted in chronic non-healing wounds on the legs. It is usually fatal.
If you are looking for a specific treatment for Calciphylaxis, there are some that may help. The best course of action against getting the condition is prevention. You must control the balance of calcium and phosphates entering your system, which leads to calciphylaxis.
